Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group have reportedly turned down the resignation offer of assistant manager Steve Clarke.

The Scot's future at the club was uncertain on Wednesday night following the sacking of manager Kenny Dalglish.

Despite offering to leave, the former Chelsea defender has been refused by the American company, according to BBC Sport.

It was revealed on Thursday night that Liverpool had been granted permission to speak with Wigan Athletic boss Roberto Martinez over the vacant manager's role.
