Premier League clubs fear that they will have to start the 2020-21 season behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report.

Premier League clubs are reportedly fearful that they will have to start the 2020-21 season behind closed doors due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

The 2019-20 campaign has been officially postponed until April 30, although it is thought that the season is unlikely to resume until May, meaning a potential July finish.

According to The Mirror, 'dozens of games' could be played behind closed doors in order to complete the fixture list as fans are unlikely to be allowed inside the stadium due to the worldwide crisis.

The same report, though, claims that there is a fear among some clubs that next season could also begin in empty stadiums.

UEFA have already decided to postpone Euro 2020 until next summer to allow room for clubs to complete their seasons, although no European league currently has a definite date to return to the field.

Liverpool have all but won the Premier League this season but European places and the battle to avoid relegation are still very much open.
