Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has insisted that he has taken Steven Gerrard's criticism of the club's playing style as a compliment.
The Liverpool captain compared the apparent long-ball tactics of the Potters and Everton following their 2-2 Merseyside derby draw last weekend.
However, rather than be offended by the comments, Pulis has instead revealed his delight at being mentioned alongside the high-flying Toffees.
He said: "Actually I thought it was a compliment! I know Steven has apologised for what he's said but I actually took it as a compliment that Everton play like Stoke.
"Everton have done fantastic this season and are a good side. I've got a great respect for Gerrard. He's a great advert for English football.
"Was I surprised? No. People know me by now and I don't give a flying... I don't take the criticism to heart, if it could even be classed as criticism."
Gerrard has since retracted the comments and apologised to both clubs.
