Brendan Rodgers explains Pepe Reina omission

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reveals that Pepe Reina should return to action next week after the goalkeeper missed Sunday's win over Tottenham Hotspur through injury.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Pepe Reina should return to action next week after he missed Sunday's win over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

The Spanish goalkeeper was ruled out hours before play got underway at Anfield due to a calf problem.

"He had a tight calf in a fitness test this morning and unfortunately for him he didn't get through it," Rodgers told Sky Sports News. "Hopefully by next week he'll be fine.

"Big credit to Brad Jones, who came in at the last minute. He equipped himself terrifically today and made a great stop, especially in the first half."

Steven Gerrard scored a late penalty to give Liverpool a 3-2 victory over Spurs.
