Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers refutes 'long ball' claims

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers denies that his side have opted for a long-ball style of play to suit Christian Benteke.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has denied that his side have reverted to a long-ball style of play to suit new striker Christian Benteke.

The Belgian international has netted one Premier League goal so far since joining the Reds from Aston Villa earlier this summer.

Rodgers has said that Benteke provides the team with a different option up top.

"When you bring in a certain profile of player, it gives you other options," the Liverpool boss told BBC Sport. "I said at the beginning of the season that we want the unpredictability to our game.

"Our conditions of our game won't change but hopefully because of the different types of players we have, and different strikers in particular, it gives that unpredictability to our game."

Liverpool travel to Arsenal this evening.
