Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria as a future signing.
Given the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic, Liverpool are reluctant to spend big during the summer window, a stance which has put their chase of Thiago Alcantara in jeopardy.
However, providing that funds are saved over the next nine months, the Merseyside giants may be in a position to splash the cash in 2021.
According to Bild, Klopp is interested in signing Zakaria, whom Monchengladbach are said to value in the region of £37m.
Although the Bundesliga outfit are against a sale in the coming weeks, they are prepared to cash in on one of their star men ahead of the 2021-22 campaign.
The Switzerland international has less than two years remaining on his contract.
