Former Manchester City and Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is edging closer to a move to Turkish side Adana Demirspor, the club's chairman has said.

Mario Balotelli has begun negotiations with Turkish outfit Adana Demirspor ahead of a move to the Super Lig, according to a report.

A Premier League and Serie A winner, Balotelli spent the first half of last season without a club before moving to Serie B side Monza in December, where he scored six goals in 14 appearances.

Now, he is understood to see a move to Turkey as an opportunity to get himself back into the Italy squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Adana Demirspor chairman Murat Sancak told A Spor: "The negotiation with Mario Balotelli is 85% [complete].

"He contacted us and told us he wanted to come here. He will arrive in Turkey next week. Balotelli wants to come here to go to the World Cup. The sponsor will pay half of his salary.

"They say that Balotelli is crazy but nobody has to worry: We are from Adana and we will be able to manage him."

Adana won the Turkish second tier title last season and will now play in the top flight for the first time in 26 years.

The newly-promoted outfit have already signed former Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest striker Britt Assombalonga this summer.

Balotelli, formerly of Manchester City, Liverpool and both Milan clubs, will turn 31 in August and has not played for Italy since 2018.
