New Swansea City signing Jonjo Shelvey reveals that he sought former Liverpool teammate Joe Allen's advice before joining the Welsh club.

New Swansea City signing Jonjo Shelvey has revealed that former Liverpool teammate Joe Allen recommended the Welsh club to him.

Shelvey joined the Swans in a £5m deal last week having spent three years at Anfield.

The 21-year-old asked former Swansea midfielder Allen's advice before finalising the deal and admits that what he heard helped him to make up his mind.

"I spoke to Joe Allen just before I signed and he had nothing but good things to say about the club and the fans," Shelvey told reporters. "Brendan Rodgers and Colin Pascoe were exactly the same."

Shelvey has already made two appearances for Swansea, playing 45 minutes in each of their pre-season friendly matches against FC Gravenzande and Excelsior respectively.
