Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly made an opening offer to sign Sampdoria midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard.

The 21-year-old was a standout performer for Denmark at Euro 2020, scoring two goals in five appearances, including a stunning free kick against England in the semi-finals.

According to La Repubblica, Spurs have made an official bid for Damsgaard, believed to be worth in excess of £17m, though Sampdoria are likely to reject this offer as they are holding out for £34m.

The report also states that club president Massimo Ferrero offered Damsgaard to fellow Serie A outfit Roma on Wednesday, with Jose Mourinho an admirer of the Danish international.

In addition, Premier League trio Liverpool, Aston Villa and Leeds United are also monitoring the midfielder, as are European giants Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus.

The former Nordsjaelland man, who has three years remaining on his contract, made 35 Serie A appearances last season, scoring two goals and providing four assists.
