Ex-Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic joins Maccabi Tel Aviv

Ex-Watford boss Slavisa Jokanovic becomes the new manager of Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Former Watford manager Slavisa Jokanovic has become the new manager of Israeli club Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The 46-year-old ex-Chelsea player guided the Hornets to a place in the Premier League next season after becoming the club's fourth boss in 12 months, replacing Billy McKinlay at Vicarage Road.

Jokanovic left the Hertfordshire outfit after failing to agree a new contract and was replaced by Quique Sanchez Flores, but the Serbian has now agreed to join the Tel Aviv outfit, to the delight of owner Mitch Goldhar.

He told Maccabi's official website: "We are extremely pleased to secure the services of Slavisa, especially after his recent success and the obvious interest of other clubs after his successful campaign in the English Championship.

"He is an experienced coach and is equipped to take Maccabi to the next stage of the club's development. There is no doubt that his playing career including international appearances and his managerial roles since 2007 will assist Maccabi in both our domestic and European challenges.

"Slavisa was highly recommended and a stand out from a number of other candidates having made a real impression on club management."

Jokanovic had been in charge of Spanish Segunda Division outfit Hercules prior to joining Watford last year.
