Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero has claimed that he should have been called up to the Argentina squad earlier than he was.

The 33-year-old was handed a place in the national side for the first time earlier this month and could win his debut cap for Gerardo Martino's men in Wednesday night's friendly against Croatia at Upton Park.

Caballero acknowledged that his move to City may have helped him get noticed by manager Martino, and is hoping that his first call-up is not also his last.

"I think that maybe this call could have come earlier but I don't want to think about the past - I just want to give everything for the national team," he told Man City's official website.

"I want to make the most of this opportunity because I don't want it to be the last one. Hopefully I can make my debut and help the team.

"I guess that the new coach knows me very well from my time in La Liga last season and I think that being at City probably helped me too."

Caballero has made just four appearances for City since his summer move from Malaga.
