Pep Guardiola has refused to criticise referee Martin Atkinson after Willy Boly's controversial goal helped Wolverhampton Wanderers to a 1-1 draw with Manchester City.

Last season's Championship winners took the lead on 57 minutes when the defender's attempted diving header went in off his hand from Joao Moutinho's free kick.

City drew level in the 69th minute through Aymeric Laporte's first goal for the club, but the visitors went on to lose their 100% record in the Premier League this term.

"Of course, Wolves deserve compliments," Guardiola told Sky Sports News at the end of Saturday's game at Molineux.

"It's none of my business [whether Boly's goal should bring in VAR]. The Premier League will decide, and when they decide VAR will be here.

"When I spoke to the referee [at the end of the match], I was just giving them a compliment about their job."

The result, combined with Liverpool's 1-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion later on in the day, saw the Citizens dethroned from top spot in the table.
