Roberto Mancini reiterates that Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak is "happy" with his performance despite the team's early exit from the Champions League.

Roberto Mancini has insisted that his employers at Manchester City are "happy" with his performance.

The Italian says that despite their failure to advance to the Champions League last 16 for the second season in a row, club chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak is pleased with the team's overall progress.

"[Al-Mubarak] is happy with the way we are going in the Premier League – and we have the FA Cup to come," The Guardian quotes Mancini as saying.

"Obviously they are so disappointed about the Champions League, and this is normal because our target when we started the competition was to get to the knockout stage and anything can happen when you arrive there.

"But we didn't do well and for this reason I think they are disappointed. But they understand it takes time to succeed in the Champions League."

City are currently a point behind Manchester United in second place in the Premier League.
