Roberto Martinez: 'Manchester City never made Ross Barkley approach'

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is adamant that Manchester City have never made an offer to sign midfielder Ross Barkley.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has insisted that Manchester City have "never" made an approach to sign midfielder Ross Barkley.

City were linked with a move for the England international over the summer following his break-out season with the Toffees in the last campaign, but no formal offer was ever presented to Martinez's side.

The Spaniard is adamant that the relationship between Everton and the Citizens is in excellent condition, despite the reports of a potential move for the 21-year-old.

"Maybe if you are a selling club, but we are not a selling club," Martinez told reporters. "We have a great relationship with City.

"We signed Gareth Barry on loan and the relationship has always been good, but there has never been an approach about Ross. Never."

Everton and City face off in the Premier League this afternoon.
