Roberts: 'Rodgers similar to Guardiola'

Patrick Roberts says that the similarities between Brendan Rodgers and Pep Guardiola are clear to see in terms of Celtic and Manchester City's style of play.

Patrick Roberts has claimed that Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is "similar" to Manchester City counterpart Pep Guardiola in the way that he sets out his team to play.

The Ulsterman helped the Bhoys set a new British record of 63 domestic games unbeaten with last weekend's victory over St Johnstone, surpassing their own achievement of a century ago.

Roberts, who is on loan at Celtic Park from Man City for a second season, believes that Rodgers deserves praise for the style of play rolled out since arriving at the club last year.

"Our willingness to win every game and to not lose has probably got us this far," Sky Sports News quotes him as saying. "And the manager is instilling that in us from the get-go.

"From last season and this we've had the same mentality and focus all year round, and that in itself is why we've been so successful. In the Premier League, Guardiola is playing the football he's played at Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

"The gaffer here is similar, he tries to play football at every opportunity, even when we're under pressure, and he's instilled that in every player. We're always getting better at it and you see in the Bayern game we controlled the game at times and that's down to the manager."

Celtic are back in action on November 18 with a visit to Ross County, as they attempt to extend their three-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
