Matthias Sammer: 'Pep Guardiola unlikely to join Manchester City'

Bayern Munich director Matthias Sammer claims that Pep Guardiola will not take charge of Man City next summer after they opted to extend Manuel Pellegrini's contract.

Bayern Munich sporting director Matthias Sammer has suggested that Pep Guardiola will not leave to become manager of Manchester City after Manuel Pellegrini extended his contract with the Premier League side.

City have been linked with a move for the Bayern boss when his contract expires next summer, but they announced last week that they have offered Pellegrini a deal until 2017.

"I get the impression that people are trying to outdo each other with the speculation about Pep's future," Goal.com quotes Sammer as saying.

"There have been so many rumours over the past few weeks. But I guess Pellegrini's renewal with City is bad news for those who said Pep would move there in 2016.

"I can only say that we are not taking all the rumours and speculation too seriously. But that does not mean we are underestimating the situation."

Guardiola has led Bayern to two successive Bundesliga titles since taking charge in 2013.
