Manchester City complete signing of Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras

Manchester City complete the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras, but the 19-year-old will not join up with the team until December.

Manchester City have completed the signing of Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras on a five-year deal.

The 19-year-old is believed to have cost the two-time Premier League champions £27m, but he will not join up with his new teammates until the end of the Brazilian season in December.

Barcelona were thought to be interested in the forward, but their former boss Pep Guardiola has managed to lure the teen to the Etihad Stadium.

Jesus, who was voted the best newcomer in Brazil's top league, will represent his country at the Olympics in Rio.

"Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I'm really pleased to sign," Jesus told the club's official website. "We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.

"I'm looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we'll have a great future together."

City's director of football Txiki Begiristain added: "We are delighted that Gabriel has chosen to join us. He is one of the most exciting young prospects in world football and plays the game in a spectacular way. We look forward to him making a big impact at Manchester City in January."

Jesus is the sixth player to arrive at the club this summer following the arrivals of Ilkay Gundogan, Aaron Mooy, Nolito, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Leroy Sane.
