Manchester City are reportedly stalling on a new five-year deal for 18-year-old starlet Phil Foden in order to ensure that he keeps his feet on the ground.

Manchester City are reportedly holding back on offering midfielder Phil Foden a new five-year contract.

Foden is regarded by the club as one of England's brightest prospects, and recently scored his first senior goal for City in their EFL Cup victory over Oxford United.

Manager Pep Guardiola suggested after the match that the 18-year-old could be a City regular for at least 10 years, but the club are keen to ensure that the youngster keeps his feet on the ground.

The Daily Star reports that City have prepared a five-year deal worth around £25,000 per week, but are withholding the offer for the time being.

Foden's family are understood to agree with the club's treatment of the situation and are being kept updated by director of football Txiki Begiristain.

Foden, who has already made three Premier League appearances this season, is currently thought to be on £3,000 per week.
