Manchester City are reportedly ready to open contract talks with Phil Foden after the youngster starred against Oxford United in the EFL Cup.

Manchester City have reportedly started to prepare a new contract for midfielder Phil Foden.

The 18-year-old has progressed through the academy at the Etihad Stadium to become regarded as one of the top prospects in English football, and Pep Guardiola has already handed the teenager a number of opportunities in the first team.

Foden netted his first goal for City as the Premier League champions defeated Oxford United in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, and according to the Daily Mail, that has led to movement in the boardroom regarding an improved deal.

The Under-17s World Cup winner currently has just under two years remaining on his existing terms, but City want to hand Foden a longer contract in a bid to ensure that he remains in the North-West of England.

The report indicates that both parties are keen to come to an agreement with Foden happy at the club following 14 appearances in the senior ranks.
