Manchester City defender John Stones has reportedly signed a new five-year contract to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City defender John Stones has reportedly signed a new five-year contract to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

The renaissance of the 27-year-old alongside new recruit Ruben Dias was a key contributing factor to City's success last season, with Pep Guardiola's side conceding just 12 Premier League goals when the pair were together in the side.

Following an impressive campaign for club and country, Stones is set to be rewarded with a new £250,000-a-week contract, according to The Athletic.

This new deal is set to see Stones earn around £13m per season before tax, which will put him in the same bracket as defenders including England teammate Harry Maguire and Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.

The former Barnsley and Everton centre-back was due to see his original deal expire at the end of next season, though City's hierarchy were keen to tie him down to a new contract.

Stones has made 168 appearances for City across all competitions since he joined the club 2016 and has won three Premier League titles, four EFL Cups as well as one FA Cup.
