Patrice Evra confident of Champions League progress

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra insists that his side can still progress through to the Champions League quarters despite trailing Olympiacos 2-0.

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has insisted that his side can overturn the two-goal deficit from their last-16 first leg to beat Olympiacos in the Champions League.

United are teetering on the brink of elimination having been beaten 2-0 in Greece last month, meaning that they must at least match that scoreline in tomorrow night's second leg at Old Trafford.

Only five teams have achieved such a feat in Champions League history, but Evra is taking inspiration from helping France to overhaul a 2-0 defeat to Ukraine in the playoffs for the 2014 World Cup.

"Of course what we did [with France] can be an inspiration. It was a difficult day after the first leg, we didn't expect to lose 2-0 in Ukraine but after two days the storm passed and everyone was focused on the same goal," Evra is quoted as saying by PA.

"We stood together, we didn't listen to the criticism and we played for the people who love us, our families, our fans and we gave everything.

"I am confident we can do it. I have been in that situation, I can handle the pressure, I think the team will. We have to show that tomorrow night."

Meanwhile, Evra also swerved questions about his future with the club amid reports that he could leave at the end of the season.
