Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has insisted that the Champions League clash against Real Madrid will be a "special night".

Sir Alex Ferguson's side face the Spanish giants on Tuesday night after securing all three points against Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Rooney insists that the whole squad is looking forward to the game against Jose Mourinho's men, describing it as a tie between "the two biggest clubs in the world".

"It hasn't been hard not thinking about Tuesday," Rooney told reporters. "Norwich was a massive game for us and we wanted to extend the gap at the top of the league.

"The manager put a lot of experienced players out and made us aware it was more important.

"It is going to be a special night. It is probably the two biggest clubs in the world and something we are all looking forward to."

Rooney is expected to start on Tuesday night after scoring against Norwich.
