Lyon boast a 100% record in the Women's Champions League this season, scoring 21 goals and keeping six clean sheets in their seven European wins.

The record UWCL winners recorded one of those shutouts in last Wednesday's trip to Munich, with their sturdy backline providing a solid foundation for a 2-0 victory, which came courtesy of goals from Tabitha Chawinga and Melchie Dumornay.

They followed their successful trip to Germany with a resounding 5-0 victory in Saturday's away clash against Saint-Etienne, helping them maintain their 10-point lead at the top of the Premiere Ligue.

After clinching a seventh straight competitive victory, the reigning French champions will now turn their focus back to European action, with the hosts looking to reach the semi-final for the 14th time in 16 last-eight appearances.

They will be confident of building upon their first-leg advantage after winning each of their last 18 competitive home matches, with five of those victories taking place in the Women's Champions League.

Bayern are at risk of suffering a quarter-final exit for the third time in four seasons after failing to make the most of home advantage last week.

That result brought an end to their seven-game winning run in all competitions, representing their first defeat since losing their final UWCL group game to Arsenal in December.

They did at least bounce back with a 3-2 victory in Saturday's DFB-Pokal Frauen semi-final against Hoffenheim despite going two goals down inside the opening 25 minutes.

Pernille Harder scored a couple of goals to send the two teams into the break on level terms, before she completed her hat-trick in the second period to set up a final clash against Werder Bremen, keeping Bayern's hopes alive of winning the competition for the first time since 2011-12.

If they are to remain in the hunt for their maiden European trophy, the German giants will have to produce something special in Wednesday's contest, as they look to become the first team since Arsenal in October 2022 to win an away game against Lyon by two goals or more.

Team News

Lyon Women's Melchie Dumornay on January 18, 2025© Imago

Lyon midfielder Danielle van de Donk is expected to feature among the substitutes after she returned from a three-game injury absence to play as a substitute at the weekend.

After making several changes at the weekend, Lyon boss Joe Montemurro could decide to revert to the same lineup that started the first leg against Bayern.

Dumornay, who has racked up 18 competitive goals this term, will be looking to score in a fifth consecutive game when she lines up against Bayern on Wednesday.

Bayern remain without Lena Oberdorf, Georgia Stanway and Katharina Naschenweng, who are all working on their rehabilitation from knee injuries.

Giulia Gwinn and Glodis Viggosdottir were notable absentees from Saturday's squad and will have to be assessed ahead of the trip to France.

Harder will continue to provide Bayern's main attacking threat, having scored eight goals in as many competitive matches in 2025.

Lyon Women possible starting lineup:
Endler; Carpenter, Gilles, Renard, Bacha; Egurrola, Heaps, Marozsan; Diani, Chawinga, Dumornay

Bayern Munich Women possible starting lineup:
Grohs; Hansen, Sembrant, Eriksson, Simon; Lohmann, Zadrazil; Alara, Harder, Buhl; Damnjanovic

We say: Lyon Women 3-1 Bayern Munich Women

Bayern may have to take risks if they are to overturn a two-goal deficit in Wednesday's second leg, but that could leave them vulnerable to Lyon's array of attacking talent, and we ultimately believe that the home side's firepower will prove too strong for the visitors, which is why we expect the record European champions to claim a relatively comfortable victory.
