Antonio Valencia out of Copa America

Antonio Valencia will play no part for Ecuador at the Copa America after the Manchester United winger reveals that he has undergone surgery.

Ecuador will have to make do without Antonio Valencia for this summer's Copa America.

The Manchester United winger revealed on Instagram yesterday afternoon that he had undergone surgery on an unspecified injury.

His recovery time is not known, but the Ecuadorian FA has confirmed today that the 29-year-old will not be fit enough to feature at the tournament, which gets underway in Chile on June 11.

Only captain Wayne Rooney and goalkeeper David de Gea made more appearances for United last season.

However, there have been suggestions recently that manager Louis van Gaal would be willing to part with the player, who joined the Red Devils in 2009 from Wigan Athletic.
