Rio Ferdinand reportedly confirms that Roy Hodgson has omitted the defender from England's Euro 2012 squad after Manchester United's victory over the Irish League XI last night.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has reportedly confirmed that England manager Roy Hodgson has left him out of the Euro 2012 squad.

It is believed that the Red Devils veteran will not be included in the 23-man travelling squad to Ukraine and Poland, with the announcement due to be made at 1pm today.

Hodgson, who became Fabio Capello's permanent successor a matter of weeks ago, is thought to have opted to take Chelsea captain John Terry over the 33-year-old.

Reports have claimed that Ferdinand confirmed following United's 4-1 win over the Irish League XI yesterday that he will not be competing alongside the Three Lions this summer.

It is understood that Hodgson has omitted Ferdinand for fitness reasons but some have suggested that the decision could have come to pass due to the racism controversy surrounding Terry and Ferdinand's brother Anton.
