Sir Alex Ferguson casts doubts over Rio Ferdinand's suitability for a place in England's Euro 2012 squad.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has raised doubts over Rio Ferdinand's ability to perform for England at Euro 2012.

Newly-appointed Three Lions boss Roy Hodgson is reportedly preparing to take Ferdinand to Poland and the Ukraine in place of Chelsea captain John Terry.

However, Ferguson does not believe that the 33-year-old's body can be relied upon to cope with the demands of tournament football.

The Scot told MUTV: "In the Olympics you play something like a game every four days. Rio Ferdinand couldn't do that."

Ferguson was speaking about the London 2012 Olympic football tournament, where the winning nation will have to play six games in 13 days.

If England reach the final of Euro 2012, they will face six games in 20 days.
