Romelu Lukaku's record vs. Manchester City

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has fared in previous meetings with Manchester City ahead of this weekend's encounter.

Manchester United will attempt to delay Manchester City's Premier League title joy when they visit the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils must steer clear of defeat on enemy territory if they are to avoid the embarrassment of seeing their rivals lift the top-flight crown in a record time.

Jose Mourinho will field a full-strength side, with rotation for the Champions League no longer an issue following last month's shock exit, which will likely mean another start for leading marksman Romelu Lukaku.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Belgium international has performed in previous meetings with City.


Lukaku vs. Man City

Lukaku did not feature against the Citizens during his time with Chelsea and was used for a combined 99 minutes in two league games while at West Bromwich Albion, firing blanks in both.

Following his 2013 move to Everton, the 24-year-old had a better time of things as he struck in half of the eight meetings with City in the Premier League.

Two of those goals came in the 2016-17 campaign, including a cool finish in the meeting at the Etihad Stadium, with Everton taking four points from Pep Guardiola's charges.

Lukaku was less successful in his first taste of the Manchester derby four months ago, though, failing to convert from a decent late chance as his side lost 2-1 in a pivotal fixture, leaving him with an overall record of five goals in 13 appearances - eight of those ending with him on the losing side.
