Friday's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup: Samuel Umtiti, Chris Smalling, Luis Suarez

Sports Mole rounds up the latest transfer talk for Manchester United on Friday, September 25.

The summer transfer window has now begun, with rumours and speculation continuing to swirl as Manchester United eye possible reinforcements.

The Red Devils brought in Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo in the final days of the winter window but are still expected to be active in the summer as they aim to restore their former glories.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest news on possible comings and goings from Old Trafford.

Friday morning's Manchester United transfer talk news roundup:

Manchester United could reportedly move for Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti in the final stages of this summer's transfer window.

Chris Smalling is expected to leave the Red Devils before the October 5 deadline, while Marcos Rojo could also move on, which would leave the 20-time English champions short of experienced options at the back.

A new central defender could therefore arrive at Old Trafford in the coming weeks, and according to France Football, United are weighing up an approach for Umtiti.

The France international has a contract at Camp Nou until the summer of 2023 but could allegedly be allowed to leave for free as the Catalan giants attempt to reduce their wage bill.

The 2018 World Cup winner has made 116 appearances for Barca in all competitions, but a number of injury problems restricted him to just 13 La Liga outings in 2019-20.

Umtiti has not played for his current club since the end of June due to a knee issue.

Luis Suarez 'had anti-Manchester United clause in Barcelona contract'

Luis Suarez was allegedly prepared to reveal details of his Barcelona contract if he was prevented from signing for Atletico Madrid.

Having spent the last six years at Camp Nou, the Uruguay international is expected to be confirmed as an Atletico player in the coming hours.

However, a move has allegedly only materialised after a number of Barcelona directors decided to back down in their bid to stop the 33-year-old from joining a La Liga rival.

According to reports in Spain, Suarez was prepared to hold a press conference which may have revealed private email discussions between the relevant parties.

The report claims that it would have confirmed that Suarez, a former Liverpool player, would not be able to sign for Manchester United.

The veteran allegedly wanted to prove that there was no clause in his contract that gave Barcelona the right to block a transfer to Atletico.
