David de Gea "calm" over Manchester United future

David de Gea insists that he is "calm" over his Manchester United future after his proposed transfer to Real Madrid fell through at the last minute.

David de Gea has insisted that he is "calm" over his future at Manchester United, but is eager for some 'luck' when he returns to Old Trafford.

The goalkeeper was on the verge of joining Real Madrid in the closing days of the transfer window last week, but the deal collapsed at the last minute.

The paperwork was not completed in time, meaning that De Gea will have to stay at United until at least next summer.

During the transfer saga, manager Louis van Gaal opted to exclude the 24-year-old from his squad in all six of the team's games of the season so far.

After playing in Spain's 1-0 win over Macedonia on Tuesday, the shot-stopper is hopeful of getting back into the United XI.

"My future will be the same as it is now - stay calm, keep working and improving," FourFourTwo quotes De Gea as saying. "In short, enjoy football. I am happy.

"I felt good [on Tuesday]. I was eager to play. Now it is about keeping working and seeing if I am also lucky with my club. The support I have received is very important. I have some great colleagues and I am grateful to everyone."

Reports have claimed that De Gea will return to his starting spot, replacing Sergio Romero, for Saturday's showdown against arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford.
