Mick Duxbury: Manchester United all about "not getting beat"

Mick Duxbury tells Sports Mole that Manchester United are currently a side that looks to avoid defeat, "rather than going out to win".

Former Manchester United defender Mick Duxbury has told Sports Mole that today's team has lost some of its attacking impetus under Louis van Gaal's management.

In years gone by, the Red Devils have been famed for an attacking brand of football that often saw them end the campaign as the division's highest goalscorers.

However, Van Gaal's men, despite often dominating possession of the ball, have scored more than one goal in only three of their eight Premier League matches this term.

It is that statistic in particular that has caused 56-year-old Duxbury to conclude that United under their current guise are built not to lose, "rather than going out to win" games.

"For me personally, they've lost that little bit of something. Right now it's all about United not getting beat, rather than going out to win. It's been that kind of approach and maybe why people are a little bit unsure," he said.

United, who are third in the Premier League, will return to action this coming Saturday away at Everton's Goodison Park - a ground where they have not won since October 2011.

It's Mick Not Mike, RRP £18.99, can be purchased from Pitch Publishing here.
