A representative for Rio Ferdinand confirms that the 32-year-old is not interested in leaving Manchester United.

Rio Ferdinand has no intention of leaving Manchester United to join Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, a representative for the player has confirmed.

The England international, who will turn 33 in November, had been strongly linked with a move to the US earlier today.

His contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the season, but representative Jamie Moralee has revealed that Ferdinand is keen to extend his stay with the club.

"It has been a very frustrating period for all concerned," Moralee told Press Association Sport.

"It doesn't matter whether it is the 10th year, the 11th year or the 13th, when the time is right, we will sit down with the club and talk about it.

"But for now it is not on the agenda. The only thing that matters is getting back out on the pitch for Manchester United on a regular basis again because there is so much he still wants to achieve with them."

Ferdinand joined United in 2002 for a fee of £30m from Leeds United.
