Ryan Giggs: 'Manchester United could have to wait 20 years for next PL title'

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs fears that his former club may go decades without another Premier League triumph, with the Red Devils last finishing top in 2013.

Manchester United legend and Wales manager Ryan Giggs has claimed that the Red Devils may have to wait for a couple of decades before they can lift the Premier League title again.

United last finished top of the pile in the 2012-13 season - Alex Ferguson's last in the Old Trafford dugout - and the Red Devils have since seen Chelsea, Leicester City, Manchester City and Liverpool achieve Premier League glory after their most recent triumph.

Liverpool's title win last season saw the Reds finish 18 points above second-placed City and 33 above United, and Giggs - winner of 13 top-flight crowns at Old Trafford - fears that the Red Devils could be waiting a while for their next league success.

When asked how long United may go without a league title on the Greatest Game podcast, Giggs said: "100% it could [be 10 years until United win the title again]. It could be 15 or 20 years before you know it. Especially if Klopp and Guardiola stick around, they've got the resources and obviously the players.

"I think we have got Liverpool to look at, the last time they won it, they thought 'we'll win it again soon.' Even Klopp, it took four-and-a-half years to win it, it takes a long time. I think what Klopp did, he improved every season or won a trophy, won the Champions League, you see that improvement so the pressure is off a little bit.

"Whereas every manager, every signing is seen as 'he'll win us the league' but it's not like that."

United will be searching for their first home league victory of the season when they welcome Arsenal to Old Trafford on Sunday.
