Frank Leboeuf: 'Paul Pogba's best position is on the bench'

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's best position on current form is "on the bench", according to fellow Frenchman Frank Leboeuf.

Chelsea and France legend Frank Leboeuf has suggested that it would be best for Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to keep Paul Pogba on the bench.

The 27-year-old had another tough time of things in United's 1-0 Premier League defeat to Arsenal on Sunday, conceding a penalty for the only goal of the game.

That was Pogba's first top-flight start since the Red Devils' heavy 6-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur - another game in which he gave away a spot kick.

With a number of other midfield options to choose from, Leboeuf believes his compatriot can consider himself fortunate to make it into Solskjaer's XI.

"I don't know if there is any explanation [for United's form]," he told ESPN. "It was a random win against Leipzig and a lucky one.

"What we have seen in the Premier League is not good enough from Manchester United. The level drops dramatically.

"It was very strange to see that diamond midfield because Solskjaer wanted Pogba in the middle of the park, where he is clearly a problem because he changed him in the second half, putting him on the left wing almost.

"He doesn't know what to do with Pogba. Solskjaer has to rethink his position, maybe the best position for Pogba right now is on the bench."

Pogba apologised for his "stupid mistake" in United's defeat to Arsenal, which leaves his side 15th in the table after six games.
