Louis van Gaal responds to Cristiano Ronaldo rumours: "He may come"

Louis van Gaal says that it is virtually 'impossible' for Manchester United to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo.

Louis van Gaal has told Manchester United fans to forget about the possibility of re-signing Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

This summer has seen the Portuguese ace linked with a return to Old Trafford following his departure for a world-record fee of £80m in 2009.

The Red Devils have spent some £70m already in the transfer window on Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

While Van Gaal admits that he is missing a creative spark, the Dutchman concedes that signing Ronaldo is virtually 'impossible' given the figures in question.

"We can use much more creativity," he told reporters in the United States. "We have Wayne [Rooney], [Juan] Mata, Depay, [Ashley] Young, [Adnan] Januzaj, [James] Wilson, [Ander] Herrera. Young has had a fantastic season, but he is not a Neymar and we have to compete with that kind of class.

"When it is possible to buy, for a reasonable price, players from that level, we shall do that because they can contribute as they are better.

"Ronaldo? He may come, but it is not possible. Why not? Because you have the club [Real], Ronaldo and then you have Manchester United and how much Manchester United want to spend."

Speculation is rife that Ronaldo - who reportedly had a falling-out with Real coach Rafael Benitez - is the subject of an £84m bid from Paris Saint-Germain.

He netted 118 times during a six-year stint at the Theatre of Dreams.
