Manchester United fanzine Red Issue has caused controversy by putting Fabrice Muamba on the front cover of their latest edition.

The publication depicts paramedics treating Muamba on the White Hart Lane pitch just moments after he had suffered a cardiac arrest.

It is accompanied by the headline 'GRIEF JUNKIES RUN RIOT' and members of the crowd saying via speech bubbles 'Is he dead?', 'I've Tweeted my condolences just in case' and 'Good mourning!'

It is believed that the cover was intended as a satirical statement on how social media networks react to tragic events.

Having come in for a large amount of criticism, the Red Issue responded on Twitter by saying: "No wonder the Twitterati aren't happy with the cover - it's them who are being lampooned #griefjunkies."

Red Issue made the headlines in February for their reaction to Luis Suarez's racist abuse of United defender Patrice Evra.
