A leading bookmaker installs Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen as the favourite to replace Roberto Martinez at Wigan Athletic.

Rene Meulensteen has been installed as the early favourite to become the new manager of Wigan Athletic.

The Latics, who were relegated to the Championship last season, are soon expected to be in the market for a new boss after chairman David Whelan confirmed today that he had granted Roberto Martinez permission to talk to Everton.

Should the Spaniard be appointed to the Goodison Park helm, he will replace David Moyes, who will officially become the manager of Manchester United in July.

Moyes has reportedly opted to release a number of the coaching staff at Old Trafford, including Meulensteen and consequently he has become the 6/4 favourite with William Hill to take over from Martinez at the DW Stadium.

The Dutchman has previously managed the Man United youth and reserves sides.
