Ravel Morrison says that his homophobic Twitter outburst was triggered by racist abuse from fans.

Ravel Morrison has said that his homophobic Twitter outburst was triggered by racist abuse from fans.

The former Manchester United star, who moved to West Ham United on transfer deadline day, used the word "faggot" in a tweet responding to allegations that he was a drug user.

Morrison told the FA that he was labelled a "crackhead" and suffered racial abuse from United fans apparently disgruntled with his departure from the club.

The FA will now consider his explanation before deciding how to proceed.

The 19-year-old has previously been charged with witness intimidation and was questioned by police following an altercation with his girlfriend.
