August's Premier League Player of the Month nominees announced

The Premier League announces its four-man shortlist for the first Player of the Month award of the campaign.

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling is among the four nominees for the first Player of the Month award of the new campaign following his impressive start to the season.

The Englishman has looked revitalised under Pep Guardiola this term after a disastrous Euro 2016 showing, scoring two goals and claiming one assist across City's first three games.

Eden Hazard is also in contention, having started this season where he ended the final few weeks of 2016-16 with some breathtaking displays, helping Chelsea to a perfect start courtesy of two strikes.

Manchester United have also begun life under a new manager with three wins from three in the league, with Antonio Valencia playing a key part in that run thanks to his surging runs down the flank - no other player making more successful passes in the final third than the Ecuadorian.

Valencia has also helped out at the back, keeping two clean sheets thus far to help the Red Devils take joint lead at the summit at this early stage in proceedings.

The four-man shortlist is completed by Curtis Davies, who has been arguably the key man in Hull City's surprise start to the season, in which they have taken six points from the first nine on offer.

Davies has made a league-high 21 interceptions this term, while also boasting a 100% cent tackle success rate across his first three games.

The winner of the inaugural 2016-17 Player of the Month award will be announced next week.
