Wayne Rooney: 'I never handed in transfer request'

Wayne Rooney says that he has never handed in a transfer request at Manchester United, despite reportedly wanting to leave in 2010 and 2013.

Wayne Rooney has denied ever handing in a transfer request at Manchester United.

The United captain claimed that he would not sign a new contract in 2010, and was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea three years later.

"I said [to Sir Alex Ferguson] if you're not going to play me it might be better if I moved on," Rooney said in BBC documentary Wayne Rooney - The Man Behind The Goals.

"But I never put in a transfer request. I don't know why it came out that way."

The 29-year-old scored his 235th goal for United during their 3-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday.
