Jamie Redknapp: 'Manchester United are a long way from being champions'

Manchester United will not challenge to win the Premier League title next season, says Jamie Redknapp.

Jamie Redknapp has rubbished Wayne Rooney's claim that Manchester United will come close to winning the Premier League next season.

United's captain believes that the Red Devils will challenge for the title as long as they sign a couple of players, but Redknapp is adamant that they are "a long way off."

He told Sky Sports News: "I don't think they are close to winning the title next year. I don't think they will go close.

"When you look at the quality players, some of them, like [Angel] Di Maria, have not achieved what they should have done this year. Do you carry on with him or do maybe sell him? That's the difficulty they have.

"[Louis] Van Gaal is the right manager for Manchester United but I still feel they are a long way off."

United finished fourth this season.
