Jamie Redknapp calls on Romelu Lukaku to prove his worth

Romelu Lukaku needs to become more consistent and start justifying his £28m price tag next season, says Jamie Redknapp.

Former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp has urged Everton striker Romelu Lukaku to realise his potential.

The Belgian has had an up-and-down season at Goodison Park, but he has shown good form in recent weeks and netted the winner against West Ham United on Saturday.

However, Redknapp doesn't believe that he plays at his best often enough.

He told The Daily Mail: "He might have scored the winner on Saturday but I want to see more from Romelu Lukaku next season. He has all the attributes to be top class but he's just not consistent enough. He should look at his idol Didier Drogba, who battered defences every week.

"Lukaku is 6ft 3in, fast and nearly 15 stone. He is an absolute beast and should be bullying defenders. Everton have to use him in the right way but too often he doesn't impose himself.

"He has done well in Europe this season with eight goals, but five of those did come against Young Boys. And in the last three seasons his Premier League stats have steadily dropped. He needs to start regularly showing why Everton invested such big money in him."

The 22-year-old has scored 20 goals in 50 games this season.
