The agent of Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman has stated that Manchester United are "one step away" from signing the Netherlands international.
The 24-year-old midfielder is said to be on the radar of United manager Louis van Gaal, who is reportedly keen to link up with Strootman again after they worked together during Van Gaal's stint as Netherlands coach.
With Strootman nearing full fitness, Matteo Materazzi believes that an agreement for his client will go through when the January transfer window opens.
"Manchester are one step away from Kevin Strootman," Materazzi told Rai Sport.
"The British club will pay €40m (£32m) into the coffers of the Giallorossi."
Strootman joined Roma from PSV Eindhoven in 2013.
