Former Brazil striker Ronaldo has hit back at Sir Alex Ferguson for describing him as "old and fat" when comparing him to Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Manchester United manager was quizzed before his side's 2-1 Champions League defeat to Madrid as to who he thought was better between the former los Blancos striker and his Portuguese namesake, and the two-time World Cup winner took exception to Ferguson's remarks.

"I feel sorry for the disrespectful manner in which he referred to me," Ronaldo told reporters.

"It's something that's not good for someone of his position [to say]. I'm happy for what I achieved in football and for having been chosen as the best in the world."

The former Inter Milan and Barcelona forward won the FIFA World Player of the Year three times during a distinguished career.
