Italy full-back Matteo Darmian confirms that he wants to leave Manchester United due to a desire to play first-team football.

Matteo Darmian has confirmed that he wants to leave Manchester United due to a desire to play first-team football.

The Italy international has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford, starting just five Premier League games for the Red Devils last season.

Indeed, manager Jose Mourinho confirmed earlier this week that Darmian is up for sale, but no interested clubs have yet been able to match the Premier League giants' valuation.

"[Leaving] is what I want, but we will see what happens because we don't know," Darmian told the Manchester Evening News. "I want to play more regularly.

"Last season I didn't play much - that's my objective and my ambition. That's why I spoke with the manager and also with the club about my future.

"Honestly, I'm waiting. If I stay, I stay and I do what I did up until now. If I go, it is because the offer that another team makes will be good.

"To play for probably the best club in the world is a good thing and for me it's an honour to play here and play for Manchester United. But we have to take decisions in our life and this is my decision."

Darmian has been linked with a number of teams over the past six months, including Italian giants Juventus and Inter Milan.
