Manchester United 'begin talks with David de Gea over new deal'

Manchester United reportedly hope to tie David de Gea down to a new long-term deal at Old Trafford following fresh interest from Real Madrid for the Spain international.

Manchester United have reportedly opened discussions with goalkeeper David de Gea over a new contract to fend off fresh interest from Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old is a long-term target for the European champions, having only missed out on a switch to the Spanish capital in 2015 because of a faulty fax machine.

Madrid have retained an interest De Gea ever since, with a £62m bid said to be in the offing for next summer.

In response to the speculation, however, The Telegraph reports that preliminary talks are now underway between the former Atletico Madrid glovesman and United to tie him down to a new long-term deal at Old Trafford.

De Gea is currently contracted to the Red Devils until the end of next season, but boss Jose Mourinho intends to take up the option of a 12-month extension.
