Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati emerges as a summer transfer target for Manchester United, according to a report.

Manchester United are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing Barcelona attacker Ansu Fati during this summer's transfer window.

The 20-year-old came through the youth system at Barcelona, progressing through the various age groups before making his first-team debut in 2019.

Fati will not turn 21 until October, but he has already made 88 appearances for the Catalan giants, scoring 25 goals and registering nine assists in the process.

The Spain international has found it difficult to show his best form for Xavi's side this season, though, only contributing six goals and three assists in 30 appearances.

Fati missed 47 matches for Barcelona between November 2020 and September 2021 due to a serious knee injury, and he has since been absent with two long-term hamstring problems.

There has recently been speculation surrounding the Spaniard's future despite the fact that he penned a new deal at Camp Nou in October 2021, which is due to run until June 2027, with the option of an additional two years.

Man United are believed to be long-term admirers of the forward, and according to Sport, the 20-time English champions are interested in signing him during this summer's transfer window.

The report claims that Fati's agent Jorge Mendes is aware of the interest, and the forward could seek a move away this summer if he is unable to fully break into the side before the end of the campaign.

The La Liga outfit will allegedly be under pressure to make a big sale this summer due to their financial problems, and Fati could potentially become available despite currently being considered as 'non-transferable'.

Barcelona boss Xavi was asked about Fati during his press conference on Saturday afternoon.

"Things will work out for him, we have to be patient, he is a spectacular asset for the club, we trust him a lot, he is working very well, he has a tremendous mentality in training, but we need to be patient," the head coach told reporters.

"He is 20 years old and needs time, like everyone else. This is not the time to talk about sales."

Man United will be in the market for at least one new striker during this summer's transfer window, as they look to sign a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anthony Martial could also allegedly depart, which would open up space in the squad to make another forward addition, with Fati capable of playing in a number of positions in the final third of the field.
