Manchester United, Liverpool 'face competition for Nuno Mendes'

Juventus and AC Milan join the race to sign Sporting Lisbon's teenage left-back Nuno Mendes, according to a report.

Juventus and AC Milan have reportedly joined the race to sign Sporting Lisbon's teenage left-back Nuno Mendes during this summer's transfer window.

The 18-year-old has been in impressive form for his Portuguese club during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring once and providing two assists in 24 appearances in all competitions.

Manchester United and Liverpool have both been credited with an interest in the youngster, who only signed a new long-term deal with Sporting in December.

However, according to A Bola, the English duo have been joined in the hunt by Juve and Milan, with the Italian giants both keen to bring him to Serie A in the upcoming market.

The report claims that Sporting are not prepared to discuss offers for Mendes and will only allow him to leave if the £60m release clause in his contract is activated.

The defender has been capped on four occasions by Portugal's Under-21s side.
