Manchester United 'considering £13.5m Chris Smalling bid'

Manchester United are considering Roma's latest offer of £13.5m for Chris Smalling, with the Englishman looking set to depart before the transfer window closes.

Roma have reportedly made a last-gasp attempt to sign Manchester United defender Chris Smalling before the transfer window shuts next Monday.

The 30-year-old made a name for himself at Paulo Fonseca's side during the 2019-20 campaign, making 37 appearances across all competitions and registering three goals and two assists in Serie A.

Smalling is back in Manchester but is said to be pushing for a permanent return to Italy, although United have not been budging over the centre-back's £18m valuation.

However, according to Corriere dello Sport, the Red Devils are weighing up Roma's latest bid for the defender, which includes an upfront fee of £10.9m plus £2.7m in add-ons.

The report claims that Smalling is not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's plans for the 2020-21 season, and with the prospect of the England international leaving for a considerably lower figure next summer, United will allow him to depart in the coming days.

Should Roma not come to an agreement with the Red Devils for Smalling, the Italian outfit will supposedly look to strike a deal for Juventus centre-back Daniele Rugani instead.
