Manchester United have reportedly taken 'important steps' in their pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat, with the Fiorentina midfielder now expected to move to Old Trafford this summer.
The 20-time English champions have made two signings during the current window, bringing in Mason Mount from Chelsea and Andre Onana from Inter Milan, with the latter widely expected to make his debut against Real Madrid on Wednesday night.
Man United have also stepped up their interest in Atalanta BC's Rasmus Hojlund, with the Denmark international viewed as the club's leading target in the final third of the field.
However, Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag is also said to be determined to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer, with Fred widely expected to depart, while there is also uncertainty surrounding the future of Scott McTominay.
Amrabat has been strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford in recent weeks, with the Morocco international preparing to leave Fiorentina during this summer's transfer window.

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, 'contacts are increasingly active' between the two parties, with Amrabat now agreeing to make the move to Man United this summer.
The report claims that the Premier League outfit will be unable to finalise a deal until there have been some exits, but they are 'betting' on the midfielder, who is set to cost in the region of €30m (£25.9m) including bonuses.
Pedulla claims that a move has not been fully agreed, but there have been 'important steps', with the Red Devils in a strong position to sign him during the summer window.
Amrabat's contract with his Italian side is due to expire next June, and he has allegedly made it clear that he will not be signing an extension.

The 26-year-old was again a key player for Fiorentina during the 2022-23 campaign, featuring on 49 occasions in all competitions, helping the Serie A outfit reach the final of the Europa Conference League and Coppa Italia.
Amrabat also starred for Morocco at the 2022 World Cup, playing an important role in the nation reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
Aston Villa and Liverpool are also believed to be keen on the midfielder, while Barcelona were heavily linked with his services earlier this year.
However, Man United, who have won all three of their pre-season matches so far this summer, appear to be in pole position to bring him to the Premier League during the current window.
