Eliaquim Mangala, who has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City, would reportedly prefer a move to local rivals Manchester United this summer.
However, according to The Guardian, new Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is not keen on the French international because of reservations over the player's temperament, suggesting that the 23-year-old may lack the maturity required.
Instead, Van Gaal is thought to favour a possible move for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels.
City had been confident of Mangala's capture this summer, but it is reported that the Blues are less sure of completing a deal given the defender's feelings.
Mangala is rumoured to be holding off on any decision regarding his future until after the World Cup, as he expects to enhance his possible options with a strong tournament in Brazil.
